Rev. Tom and Carol Phillips

Tom and Carol Phillips assist in the rejuvenation of fundamental Bible churches here in the United States as their board dictates.  They also presently minister in a country in the Pacific called the Federated States of Micronesia, which were colonized by Spain in the 17th century, came under Japanese rule after Work War I, and were taken by American forces during World War II. They work in the state of Chuuk (pronounced “truk”).  Chuuk consists of eleven high mangrove-fringed islands in the Chuuk lagoon and a series of fourteen outlying atolls and low islands surrounding the lagoon. The lagoon itself is Chuuk’s major tourist attraction; one hundred or more World War II Japanese vessels and planes rest at the bottom of its watery depths. In fact, this site was the headquarters of the Japanese Imperial Navy’s 4th Fleet.  Divers from all over the world come to marvel at this underwater museum and “graveyard”; many of the wrecks have become beautiful living reefs of brilliant soft corals. The main islands of Weno, Tonoas, Uman, and Fefan are located in the lagoon, but most of the Phillips’ work is on the islands of Weno and Fefan.

Tom and Carol travel to various churches by boat; engine difficulties and nasty weather are a recurring problem. Despite these challenges and with the Lord’s help, the Phillips have accomplished a long-time goal of establishing a Christian radio station that can reach thousands! They went on the air with V6BC, “Victory Because of Calvary,” and are now airing programs seven days a week! Many of the people in Micronesia do not like what is played on the government station, and the Phillips’ desire is not just to give them something else to listen to, but to present the gospel so the Holy Spirit can work in their lives and bring them to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. The Phillips say, “We are confident the programs we air will reach that goal!”
